Will my business benefit from using e-customs®?

This is an important question. We think the most helpful thing we can do in finding the answer is to allow you to trial e-customs® without any on-going obligation. In other words you can find out for yourself, in an operational setting, the level and scale of benefits it provides for your business.

We suggest that a 3 month period is probably the right length of time to enable you to make a sound judgement; however by all means let us discuss how you think the “trial” might best work.    We think you should ask system suppliers these questions:
  1. Do you have a direct, secure link to Customs or do you use email/internet for this purpose?
  2. Would I be able to use your system for full port declarations or to facilitate border/port clearances under Customs Freight Simplified Procedures and also for NES and NCTS , customs warehousing and duty relief procedures?
  3. Do you offer a trial period?
  4. Will I need to maintain a customs database?
  5. Does the system provide a full audit trail?
  6. Can I decide for myself the management reports that I wish to run without extra cost?
  7. Do you provide 24x7x365 cover?
   Our answers to these questions, for your reference, are:
  1. e-customs® uses a direct, secure CSP link. This is we believe the best and most secure way to communicate with Customs.
  2. e-customs® is a totally comprehensive system from port arrival through to customs clearance.
  3. e-customs® does, of course, offer a trial period.

N.B. We were also tempted to suggest you ask about  their service levels but of course they will reply “Excellent”. Be wary of this answer! On the other hand when we say “Outstanding” this is based upon the ongoing client research that we undertake.

   Finally you should ask about ease of implementation and costs:
  1. How soon could I proceed with your system?
  2. How much do you charge?
   Our answers are:
  1. Within one hour depending on your exact requirements.
  2. To some extent this will depend upon your circumstances ; for instance our modules eg IPR/customs warehousing ,are not charged on a per message basis. When it comes to messages then successful messages typically cost £2 each although this can also change dependant upon the volumes concerned.
